Teaching Academic Staff to Implement Interactive Graphics for Their Courses

Abstract Many academic teachers present data as static graphics in their lectures and courses. However, structures have become more complex the last decades, especially biomedical disciplines, interactive can provide a better means to communicate scientific contents students. Besides, technological qualifications of staff are diverse, it has been little studied how these be trained program implement for It is also known whether will helpful teaching learning. We conducted pilot online workshop identify aspects that need addressed when form Shiny-apps based on programing language R. The n = 25 participants were from fields medicine or natural sciences. Pre- post-workshop questionnaires used which should considered future workshops, query usefulness students, impact teacher’s opinion towards digital devices preparedness own graphics. Most showed strong interest use courses after workshop, overall rated very only those with prior programming knowledge intended conclude an extension necessary additional training no background R programming.
